Kite surfing: Magawish, Egypt Wind Direction: NNW Wind Stength: 15 to 20+knots Surf / Sea State: Chop small waves Air Temperature: 22 Sea Temperature: 22 Weather: Sunshine Max Speed: fast Distance Covered: lots
Went done to Colona centre to pack all the kit away as we were leaving
later in the afternoon, but with the wind picking up I just had to have
another blast. And what a sesh. Took my kite up to the teaching bay as
launching at the centre wasn't easy witha nasty wind shadow on a NW or NNW
wind. Went out the sand bar and in the flatter water tried out what I had
learn't in the week, managed to go carve from heel side to toeside and
switch back on the first attempt. My riding was smoth and comfortable,
constantly flying with one hand and dragging the other through the lovely
warm shallow water, managed turns singled handed too. The wind was slighly
gusty as all week so again one or two runs were at breakneck speed for me,
but again with what I had picked through the week I managed to hold on. The
wind unfortunately picked up further and eventually got the better of me as
I was on the 17m and 20 knots plus is just to much and my friends in the
rescue boat came to aid after eventually loosing my board. It has been atop
week and the centre at Colona was top, although it cost 45euros it was
worth every penny to have the security of the rescue boat and storage
facillities, would recommend to all. One point worth noting to anyone
heading out that way, you will use larger kites in bigger winds than you
would at home (I'm not sure but there must be some meteorological reason
for this, more dense winds in the UK or something). eg: 17m in 17knots in
Egypt in the UK you may use 12 to 14m. And no one was kiting in winds below
14knots even on 20m kites or bows. Worth noting when packing kites togo
best take a good range like us.
